Coral proteas with layered, ruffled petals bloom across a rich cobalt ground, surrounded by delicate green foliage and circular leaf patterns that create rhythmic movement throughout the composition. The painting employs bold, saturated color and assured brushwork, balancing botanical realism with decorative patterning to evoke both natural abundance and artistic intention. Lara Meintjes is a South African illustrator, happily living in Oakland, California while she is working towards a PhD at UC Berkeley. She is particularly interested in color and is delighted by the millions of sneaky tigers she has included in her paintings over the years. She can usually be found drinking tea and occasionally, completely accidentally, paint water. She wishes she smoked a pipe.
